With the rapid development of green energy and advanced manufacturing, vanadium—known as the “vitamin of modern industry”—is playing an increasingly critical strategic role in vanadium batteries, specialty steels, and the aerospace, etc. However, traditional vanadium extraction processes from vanadium shale, particularly the separation and purification of vanadium from acidic leach solutions with complex composition and numerous impurities, have consistently faced significant challenges, including low recovery rates, difficulty in achieving high purity, severe environmental pollution, and high operational costs.
The CWL-M centrifugal extractor, with its unique working principle and structural design, perfectly addresses these challenges, providing a revolutionary solution for efficiently extracting high-purity vanadium from vanadium shale acid leach solutions.
Process Flow of Vanadium Extraction from Vanadium Shale Acid Leach Solution Using the Centrifugal Extractor
1.Pretreatment: The acid leach solution is filtered or settled as necessary to remove suspended solids.
2.Extraction Stage: Multiple CWL-M centrifugal extractors are connected in series to enable counter-current contact between the pretreated leach solution and specific vanadium extractants (such as phosphorus-based or amine-based extractants). Vanadium ions are selectively extracted into the organic phase, while most impurities remain in the aqueous phase and are discharged as raffinate.
3.Scrubbing Stage: The loaded organic phase is washed with a small amount of pure water or dilute acid to further remove trace impurities.
4.Stripping Stage: The washed loaded organic phase enters another set of CWL-M centrifugal extractors, where an alkaline solution (such as NaOH or NH₃·H₂O) is used for stripping, producing a purified vanadate solution.
5.Post-treatment: The purified vanadate solution is directly used to precipitate ammonium metavanadate (AMV), and high-purity vanadium pentoxide product can be obtained after calcination.
Process Highlights:
This process achieves an efficient closed-loop system of leaching–extraction–stripping–precipitation, and is fully continuous and automatic, making it an ideal choice for modern and intelligent factories.
CWL-M Centrifugal Extractor
1.High Efficiency, Second-Level Separation
With powerful centrifugal force, it enables rapid mixing and separation within seconds. The equipment occupies a small area and has a large processing capacity, completely eliminating the long settling times of traditional mixer settler.
2.High Purity & High Recovery
Strong centrifugal separation prevents phase entrainment and effectively resists emulsification. Vanadium recovery rates remain consistently above 99%, and product purity easily exceeds 99.5%, ensuring reliability for high-end applications such as vanadium batteries.
3.Cost Reduction, Efficiency Improvement, and Environmental Protection
Reagent consumption is significantly reduced, wastewater discharge is greatly minimized, and the equipment footprint is only one-tenth that of conventional systems — saving both capital investment and operating costs from the very beginning.
4.Outstanding Corrosion Resistance and Stability
Key components of the centrifugal extractor can be made from premium corrosion-resistant materials such as Hastelloy or titanium. The equipment has a long service life and low maintenance costs, ensuring the continuity and safety of production.
