In titanium alloy pickling operations, strong acids such as hydrofluoric acid (HF) and nitric acid (HNO₃) are commonly used to remove oxide layers and surface contaminants. As the pickling process is repeated, titanium ion concentrations gradually accumulate in the solution, eventually forming highly acidic waste liquid with titanium concentrations ranging from 5 to 30 g/L.
Traditional neutralization and precipitation treatment methods require large amounts of alkali, generate hazardous solid waste, and result in the permanent loss of recoverable titanium. For every ton of titanium alloy produced, approximately 2–5 tons of pickling waste liquid are generated. This means that tens of thousands of tons of valuable titanium are wasted annually worldwide.

Process Flow of Titanium Waste Liquid Recovery
1.Pickling Waste Liquid Pretreatment: After suspended solids are removed, the acidity of the waste liquid is adjusted to an appropriate level.
2.Extraction Stage: The titanium-containing waste liquid and the organic phase containing the extractant simultaneously enter the CWL-M Centrifugal Extractor. High-speed centrifugal force intensively mixes the two phases, allowing titanium ions to be rapidly extracted into the organic phase. The raffinate aqueous phase (with low titanium content) is discharged or sent for further treatment.
3.Scrubbing Stage: The loaded organic phase is scrubbed with dilute acid to remove impurity ions.
4.Stripping Stage: The scrubbed organic phase is mixed with a stripping agent. Titanium is stripped into the aqueous phase, producing a purified titanium solution, while the organic phase is recycled for reuse.
5.Post-Treatment: The titanium solution undergoes concentration, precipitation, calcination, and other processes to produce titanium dioxide or titanium pigment, which is then returned to the industrial value chain.
