The flue dust generated during copper smelting is rich in valuable metals such as copper, zinc, and bismuth, making it an “mine” awaiting efficient development. However, traditional treatment processes for flue dust leachate (such as cementation and precipitation) often suffer from low recovery rates, poor product purity, high reagent consumption, and difficult wastewater treatment, severely limiting their economic and environmental benefits. Thus, achieving the efficient, clean, and cost-effective recovery of high-purity copper from complex flue dust leachate with numerous impurities has become a key challenge urgently needing resolution in the industry.

The solvent extraction method, known for its high selectivity and efficiency, is regarded as an ideal process for copper recovery. Nevertheless, conventional mixer-settler systems suffer from several drawbacks, including large footprint, high holdup, severe back-mixing between stages, slow startup, and easy emulsification. These issues often lead to unsatisfactory performance when dealing with complex flue dust leachate.
Zhengzhou Tiei Extraction CWL-M series centrifugal extractor overcomes these limitations through its revolutionary design. It provides a brand-new solution for efficient copper recovery from copper smelting flue dust leachate.

Solution: CWL-M Centrifugal Extraction Technology

Zhengzhou Tiei Extraction’s CWL-M centrifugal extractor provides an efficient, economical, and stable new solution for copper recovery.

Extraction
The acidic flue dust leachate containing copper ions is efficiently mixed with a specially formulated extractant inside the centrifugal extractor.
Under the action of high centrifugal force, copper ions are selectively “captured” and transferred into the organic phase (extractant), while impurities such as iron, zinc, and arsenic remain in the aqueous phase, achieving the initial separation of copper from impurities.

Scrubbing and Stripping
The copper-loaded organic phase then enters the scrubbing stage, where trace impurities are removed to further improve purity.
The purified organic phase proceeds to the stripping stage, where it is mixed with a dilute sulfuric acid solution.
Here, copper ions are efficiently “released” into the aqueous phase, forming a pure, high-concentration copper sulfate solution. The extractant is regenerated and recycled for reuse.

Electrowinning / Crystallization
The high-purity copper sulfate solution can be directly used for:
Electrowinning: to produce high-value Grade A cathode copper.
Crystallization: to produce industrial-grade copper sulfate products.

Four Core Advantages of the CWL-M Centrifugal Extractor

  1. Extremely High Recovery Rate
With outstanding mass transfer efficiency, the copper recovery rate consistently exceeds 99.5%, greatly improving resource utilization.
  2. Strong Capability to Handle Complex Solutions
The powerful centrifugal force effectively manages impurities in flue dust leachate, minimizing emulsification and ensuring stable operation.
  3. Significantly Reduced Operating Costs
The equipment has minimal internal hold-up, saving extractant consumption; features automated operation, reducing labor requirements; and has a compact footprint, lowering infrastructure costs.
  4. Environmentally Friendly and Clean Production
Fully enclosed operation prevents leakage; the raffinate is clear, reducing the load on subsequent wastewater treatment processes.

Zhengzhou Tiei Extraction’s CWL-M centrifugal extraction technology provides an efficient, economical, and environmentally friendly solution for recovering copper from complex and impurity-rich copper smelting flue dust leachate. It not only transforms waste resources into high-value products, realizing a circular economy, but also overcomes the many shortcomings of traditional processes with its outstanding performance, making it an ideal choice for hydrometallurgy and resource recycling.
