DMAC Wastewater Treatment Process

  1. Wastewater pretreatment
    Remove impurities that may interfere with the extraction process (such as suspended matter, oils, high concentrations of salt, other organic solvents, etc.) and adjust the pH value (usually DMAC extraction works better under neutral to weakly alkaline conditions).
  2. Solvent extraction
    Feed: Pretreated DMAC-containing wastewater (aqueous phase) and selected extractant (organic phase) are pumped into the centrifugal extractor separately or mixed in a certain ratio (O/A) and continuously.
    Mixing: In the mixing chamber, the high-speed rotating rotor generates a strong shear force, which fully mixes the aqueous phase and the organic phase. During this process, DMAC quickly diffuses from the aqueous phase and dissolves into the extractant phase.
    Separation: The mixed liquid quickly enters the separation zone under the action of the centrifugal field. Due to the density difference between the two phases, under the strong centrifugal force, the heavy phase is thrown to the drum wall, and the light phase gathers in the center of the drum.
    Discharge: The separated two phases are discharged continuously and clearly through the independent light phase weir and heavy phase weir. The DMAC content in the aqueous phase (raffinate) after extraction is greatly reduced, usually meeting the standards for discharge or further biochemical treatment.
  3. Extractant regeneration (stripping)
    DMAC is recovered from the loaded organic phase, and the extractant is regenerated and recycled to the extraction section to reduce operating costs.
  4. DMAC recovery
    The DMAC in the stripping solution is concentrated and purified to achieve resource recovery.
