With the global depletion of sulfide nickel resources, laterite nickel ore has become the main focus for future nickel resource development. However, traditional hydrometallurgical processes face major challenges such as long processing routes, low recovery rates, and difficulties in impurity separation. Against this backdrop, solvent extraction technology, with its advantages of high efficiency, environmental friendliness, and low energy consumption, is gradually emerging as the core process for the extraction and recovery of strategic metals such as nickel and cobalt.
At present, the CWL-M series centrifugal extractor and supporting green processes developed by Zhengzhou Tiei Extraction have been successfully applied in multiple fields, including laterite nickel ore processing, spent lithium battery recycling, and the resource utilization of electroplating sludge, achieving remarkable industrial results.
In the hydrometallurgical treatment of laterite nickel ore, this process adopts the flow of “acid leaching – extraction – washing – stripping – saponification,” enabling the efficient separation of nickel and cobalt and impurities such as iron, calcium, and magnesium. This achieves a “one-step impurity removal,” significantly shortening the process flow. The nickel extraction rate exceeds 98%, and the nickel concentration in the raffinate remains stably below 0.1 g/L.
In the recycling of spent lithium batteries, solvent extraction technology enables the efficient recovery of valuable metals such as cobalt, nickel, manganese, and lithium, thereby improving resource utilization while significantly reducing environmental pollution. Tiei Extraction has developed a targeted process flow that includes leaching, impurity removal, extraction, stripping, and solvent regeneration. When combined with the CWL-M centrifugal extractor, the system achieves continuous and stable operation, greatly advancing the circular utilization of battery materials.
The core equipment, the CWL-M series centrifugal extractor, offers multiple advanced features: its top-suspended design eliminates bottom seals, fundamentally preventing leakage; the construction materials are corrosion-resistant and anti-emulsification, making it suitable for various operating conditions; its energy consumption per unit throughput is only one-third to one-tenth that of traditional equipment; and its high level of automation enables unattended operation. Each unit occupies less than 3 square meters of floor space while delivering high processing capacity, making it widely adaptable to demands ranging from laboratory scale to full industrial applications.
This technology has already been recognized by leading enterprises in the industry. In a nickel sulfate expansion project, Tiei Extraction’s CWL-M centrifugal extractor was selected as the core equipment, successfully improving product purity, enabling solvent recycling, and enhancing the workshop environment—demonstrating the maturity and reliability of centrifugal extraction technology in the field of hydrometallurgy.
Looking ahead, with the continued development of the new energy industry, Tiei Extraction will remain committed to advancing efficient extraction processes and equipment, providing key technological support for the efficient and green recovery of global nickel and cobalt resources.
