The rotating disc extraction column(RDC) is a chemical extraction equipment used for liquid-liquid extraction. It realizes the mass transfer and separation process of solute from one liquid phase (feed solution) to another liquid phase (extractant) through the contact between two immiscible or partially miscible liquids. The extraction column can be made of stainless steel, high borosilicate glass, etc., which can be selected according to customer needs.
The rotary disc extraction column belongs to the mechanical stirring extraction column, referred to as RDC, which consists of three parts: the upper clarifying section, the mixing section, and the lower clarifying section. The mixing section is cylindrical, and the interior is divided into a series of extraction chambers by the static ring baffle. The fixed rotary disc is located between the two static ring baffles and rotates with the stirring shaft. During operation, the heavy phase and the light phase enter from the top and bottom of the column respectively, and are in countercurrent contact in the extraction column. Under the stirring of the fixed rotary disc, they are dispersed to form small droplets, which increases the mass transfer area. After the extraction process is completed, the light phase and the heavy phase flow out from the outlets at the top and bottom of the column respectively.
The glass RDC used in the laboratory is made of high borosilicate glass in order to facilitate the observation of the experimental process. This material can not only observe the mixing and separation process of the two-phase liquid during operation, but also has a good corrosion resistance.
